No nonsense Naomi in a fighting mood

By HENRY MORABANG
CHAMPION woman boxer Naomi Sugar Ray will be out to defend her 51kg title during the National Boxing trials this weekend at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby.
The national trials have attracted boxers from Vanimo, Goroka, Bougainville, Central, Bereina and Port Moresby.
The 17-year-old Port Moresby Grade 11 student is eager to go and give her best shot at the championship.
Noami, the daughter of former professional boxer Sugar Ray Arua, has attended two national boxing championships and is aiming for the Oceania and the Arafura Games titles this year.
Training under the watchful eyes of John Kopi, Noami said she was looking forward to represent NCD in the national trials.
NCD coach Steven Tsivele spoke highly of Noami, saying that she could easily win a gold medal in her 51kg division.
He said Noami had all the traits of being a good boxer in the ring.
Noami said from her training venue under at Korobosea yesterday that she would give her best. Unlike other boxers, Noami always respect her opponent and would allow the ring-side judges to make their decision.
Naomi and Syliva Kengaman will represent NCD in the women bout.
