By PETER PIA
COMPETETION pacesetter KTL Sharks defeated Tere Tigers 8-4 in front of capacity crowd in Wabag rugby league pre-season encounters at the weekend.
Their win put them in a clear place leading the point table with nine points.
Sharks with experienced and new players like Eki Ene and Nishen Yapao set foundation for the havoc they caused to the Tigers.
They scored first when Douglas crossed over the line for a try which Ene could not converted, for a 4-0 lead.
Tigers replied through Jeffery Maino to level the score at 4-all to the break.
In the second half both teams had scoring chances but made a lot of unforced errors in the wet, muddy conditions.
Yapao broke the stalemate in the dying minutes when he ran 80 metres to score a try which again was not converted but Sharks ran out winners.
In other games, BS Tarangau upset Mal Por Warriors 10-2, Lupa Royals beat a much fancied Sap Panthers 14-8, Apulin Brothers defeated Ambum Magani 10-6 and Hawks were too good for Lower Lai United 12-4.
After round six of the competition Sharks lead with nine points followed by Brothers (8), Royals (7), Tarangau (6), Magani (6), Tigers (5), Panthers (5), United (4), Hawks (3) and Warriors (2).
Meanwhile, three more rounds will be played before the finals, according to the WRL president Sandis Tsaka who added that the top four teams will be in the finals.
Tsaka urged all the clubs officials to cooperate with his match committee and respect them.
He said if any club or individual player had any queries on the points table they should consult his match committee.
