Kaiva prepared to take on Neighbours

By WENDY KATUSELE
It’s grand final time in Popondetta softball with interesting encounters in the men’s and women’s premiership decider on Saturday.
The other men’s encounter would see a fiery battle between Kaiva and Neighbours while Bismarck and Kaiva lock horns in the women’s.
The big showdown is set to attract a bumper crowd at the Dr Dori Park, the return of the family sport after a ten-year absence should be the talk of Popondetta this weekend.
Much excitement is in the air for Bismarck which would be relying on the combination of pitcher Winnie Polume and catcher Josephine Wojeiba to dictate play. Their infielders of Maryanne Manduru, Patricia Ivahupa, Lulu Simond and Esther Isara are a formidable combination and should be watched.
They should be well assisted by outfielders Sharmaine Wali, Grace Dawadawreta and Bella Kenson.
Bismarck defeated minor premiers Higaturu Oil Palm to march into the grand final have nothing to lose but a premiership title to open up their trophy cabinet.
Kaiva though should not be taken lightly because they will be looking to the batting prowess of Lisa Jivo, Mouna Jivo, Evelyn Jivo and Jane Uduru to do the damage.
Kaiva managed to beat Higaturu Oil Palm 13-12 in the preliminary finals and they should have something special cooking for their opponent.
Both teams have trained well this week polishing on their batting and fielding departments signaling their hunger for the premiership title.
In the men’s clash, Neighbours will be banking on the services of Wilfred Soweni, Hamilton Leba, Boti Robinson, David Taupa and Eddie Oliver while Kaiva can count on Bani Buna and Bruce Mandako to lead their charges.
