Softball success at Vunatopoi

By ELIZABETH VUVU
THE Vunatopoi field in East New Britain was filled to capacity last weekend to witness the second softball trials of the Tomadir Sports and Recreation Foundation.
Spokesperson Cleopas Warpit said the purpose of the trials was to select teams to represent Tomadir in the upcoming Governor’s Cup and the Gazelle District Games.
He said the trials attracted named softballers who were vying for a place in the teams which would be announced soon.
Warpit outlined players like the Kirita brothers Simon, Kennely, Dito, Lut, Paul and Allan, Nelson Tamur, Tony Puikat Jnr, Chris Timan, James Warapit, Martin Tagul and Ronnie Mission playing for the Black Pythons.
Kokopo United have the Teivata brothers Marnapal and Jnr, and Jimmy Makap.
Tagi Hawks have the likes of Baibai Severin, Pauve Martin and August Baulana.
Strivers have Ronald Bill, Goldie Wokina and Melton Sialis.
For the women’s, Pythons have Lawrencia Warapit, Eddie Markis and Vincencia Joe.
Rebels have Josephine Simon and Made William.
Tagi Hawks have Nancy Kuloko and Kokopo United have quite a line-up with Roddy Luke, Liz Hubert, Helen Stanley, Rachel Duba and Salitia Rusiat.
Warpit said players’ performance has lifted from the previous weekend and has caused surprises to big-name teams like the Rebels women encounter which saw them hammering the Serpents 9-4.
In the men’s A grade matches, Black Pythons 1 edged out Black Pythons 3-2.
