Robberies, rape cases on the rise

ROBBERIES and rape cases are reportedly becoming an everyday event as more and more such cases throughout the country, especially in Port Moresby, continue to be reported to police.
Since last Monday until Wednesday, a total of eight robberies were reported to police. Eight sexual offences, including a case of sodomy on a minor and one drug and one murder case, were also reported.
Most of the robbery cases took place in Port Moresby.
Last Monday, three robberies took place at Morata 2, Tokarara and Konedobu, where armed thugs held up the victims and made off with personal belongings including their vehicles.
On the same day, a sodomy case on a minor was reported from Gerehu Stage 6, while a rape incident was reported from Tiri camp in Mt Hagen.
In the incident against the minor, police said a 10-year-old school girl was reportedly asleep in the family home when a man, believed to be under the influence of liquor, went into the room she was sleeping in, pulled down her trousers and sexually penetrated her from the anus.
The man is being detained by police.
Last Tuesday, two rapes including one pack rape, happened at Rabiamul settlement in Mt Hagen and Gerehu Stage 6 in National Capital District (NCD).
In Mt Hagen, a 17-year-old girl was forcefully taken away by a suspect, who detained her at a home and sexually abused her
Then in Gerehu, at Waikele sports field, a girl believed to be a minor, was repeatedly raped by five men, after they threatened her at gunpoint while she was walking home.
On Wednesday, three robberies and two rape incidents were reported in NCD.
Meanwhile, police in Lae confiscated illicit marijuana packed in an empty beer carton at the TNT air cargo depot.
