TWO men were killed instantly when they attempted to kill a policeman during a normal police patrol at Waigani in Port Moresby yesterday, police said yesterday.
The two men were shot dead when one of them attempted to shoot a policeman while two others escaped at about 10am.
The men, with their friends, were walking along a shortcut track when the police patrol became suspicious of them and stopped to search them.
While a policeman was in the process of searching, one of the men took out a .45 magnum pistol and put it to his head and corked it.
But the policeman quickly grabbed the man’s hand forcing him to discharge the gun into the air.
The man also fired off several rounds while struggling with the policeman.
However, the other cop came to the aid of his colleague, shot the man at point blank in his head, blowing off his brains.
The other men attempted to escape but one of them was also shot dead by police .
Police, then warned the residents not to mess with firearms.
