Promotion and relegation to be introduced in POMRFL

By HENRY MORABANG
PORT Moresby Rugby Football League (POMRFL) will amend its by-laws to allow promotion and relegation when it accept the newly set-up Port Moresby Suburban League under its wing.
The chairman of POMRFL Solomon Ravu confirmed yesterday that Port Moresby Suburban League will come under the Port Moresby Rugby League competition.
ìThe interest is quite big with teams from Gabi, Tatana and Pari have expressed interest to join the suburban leagues. There is enough interest to set up a 10-14 team competition this year,î he said.
With suburban leagues coming in, Port Moresby has scrapped off the reserve divisions which will allow for relegation and promotion at the end of the season, Mr Ravu said.
The chairman said it would be hectic as the number of players and teams have increased meaning POMRFL will have to find extra facilities to accommodate the new suburban competitions
Ravu said POMRFL is working closely with NCD to seek their assistance to upgrade the facilities at Kaugere, Sir Hubert Murray Stadiums, Kone Tigers Oval and Bomana were the games will be played.
ìWe want to take the game out or spread the game around National Capital District,î he said.
The chairman said the Port Moresby Rugby Football League season will commence with Super Nines competition set for March 1 and then followed by season proper on March 15-16.
He is now appealing to clubs to pay up their affiliation fee of K800 so they can make the draws for the season. The playersí registration fee is K30.00 for both senior and juniors while technical officials is also K30.00
All clubs have yet to make their payment except for Tarangau, Hawks, Magani and Royals. He said the deadline for the payment is today close of business.
Ravu said there should be any excuses that this was the second deadline for the clubs as many clubs did not pay when the first deadline lapsed early this year.
