Madang soccer crowd
told to behave
MADANG soccer crowd has been warned not to intimidate players or lose the
right to host the remaining National Soccer League games at Laiwaden Oval.
NSL Board chairman John Kapi Natto issued the warning after he convinced
Tuguba Laitepo Morobe Kumuls to travel to Madang for their weekend’s match
against Besta Madang Fighters.
The Kumuls had earlier threatened not to travel after several of their
players were intimidated and were shot at with sling-shots during their last
visit to Madang.
Natto said NSL is a semi professional competition and such behaviour of
issuing threat and player intimidation had no place.
He said the NSL executive had decided to include Madang in its plan because
Madang had a big soccer following.
It would not be right to remove NSL matches out of Madang as they have two
teams in the NSL competition.
He reiterated that there should be no player intimidation or threat on
players during matches
The chairman said he has instructed Kumuls management to travel as per
security guaranteed by Besta Fighters management.
“Team manager Chris Papiali has guaranteed to provide 20 security personnals
to be stationed throughout the Laiwaden Oval during the match,” he said.
