Lagea to face criminal charges

By CLIFFORD FAIPARIK
Kagua-Erave MP James Lagea appeared before the Waigani District Court a day after his first case was struck out at the Boroko District Court in Port Moresby last week.
Lagea’s case of inciting a fight was struck out at Boroko District Court last Wednesday and his bail of K50 was refunded.
But immediately after that he was arrested outside the court house by homicide detectives and later charged on two counts for grievous bodily harm.
His case has been adjourned to March 27 and is now out on bail for K400.
Detectives said he has been charged with a criminal offence linked to an incident , where Lagea with about nine others are accused of attempting to kill Ialibu security service manager Horns Kale and three of his relatives outside Bank South Pacific Port Moresby down town branch last Dec 10.
It is alleged that Lagea, 43, from Eangori village in Kagua, Southern Highlands province had accused Mr Kale from Ialibu also in SHP for withdrawing K232, 000 from the Kagua-Erave electorate funds with a bogus cheque.
