Allegations against MSU investigated

By JUNITA SOL GOMA
INVESTIGATIONS into allegations against the Measurement Service Unit (MSU) is already underway with the Education Secretary Dr Joseph Pagelio collecting reports and information from his officers to go ahead with this matter.
Dr Pagelio and his officers were very busy last week dealing wit the investigations.
The secretary is to make a public statement this week when he has enough information.
The MSU office was accused by parents and guardians of students of malpractice, particularly switching grades on the Grades 10 and 12 certificates.
This has had a huge impact on the number of school dropouts, which last year showed a figure that was an eye-opener for the country.
The fundamental issue raised is that officers in the MSU used to switch students’ grades on certificates resulting in top student ending up with a poor grades while others can go into any tertiary institution with the stolen grades or drop out.
The MSU has been tight-lipped about the issue.
But the education secretary has reassured The National that he would make a statement once he has received all the reports.
Frustrated students and dropouts in NCD have voiced anger at having their future being snapped away from them in this manner.
The stdents demand that the matter be fully investigated and if officers were found guilty of the offence severe punishment should be meted out to them.
