SPORTS personalities can be great role models for the up and coming generations as they can use their popularity to channel positive messages.
That was the gesture Papua New Guinea’s sprint queen Mae Koime showed when she was at the Korobosea International School in Port Moresby on Friday.
Speaking at a Grade 8 English class she urged the students to set goals for themselves and work towards achieving them through commitment and discipline.
“Today I find that many young people look up to me; even mother’s come up to me to tell me that they want their daughters to be like me, so I feel it as my responsibility to be a good example in life.
“Achieving your goals is something every one should work towards.
“It starts with setting a goal and working towards achieving it.” she said.
She was at the school as a guest speaker at Grade 8 English classes who have entitled their theme for this school term as, “Heroes and Heroines” Koime was invited to speak and share her experiences with the kids.
The children were happy to see and hear from one of Papua New Guinea’s elite sportswoman and the session was dedicated towards asking the star sprinter questions about her achievements as an international representative sprinter.
When asked who her role models were she said her parents have always been her greatest inspiration.
She attributed her success to them and to the stars of PNG athletics in the last fifteen years in the likes of Jeffery Bai, Clement Abai and Australian track queen Cathy Freeman.
Koime who is also an employee of KKKingston presented Dazzle gift packs to the students after the talk as part of her company’s promotional drive.
