Nuabo slams accusations

By ALISON ANIS
DISMISSED PNGTA NCD branch president Andrew Nuabo has refuted accusations made by the teaching commission in the media two weeks ago.
The commission has claimed that since Mr Nuabo was no longer a member of the Teaching Service Commission, and as such should not be seen holding office as the branch president.
Mr Nuabo said the TSC as the main statutory arm attached to the main stream structure of Education Department, has failed in exercising its prime role to monitor the implementation of department policy.
He was dismissed by the commission as a result of the July strike along with seven other teachers, who were also affected.
The commission in a media briefing said Mr Nuabo was terminated from the teaching force last year and was illegally occupying the president’s position and should not be seen to be in the forefront of any strike.
The TSC issued this statement after Mr Nuabo went to the media to lobby support from teachers for a proposed strike to disrupt the resumption of school this year.
He said the TSC has become stagnant and defunct over the years because it failed to assess and report on recommendations on specific need of its employees.
Mr Nuabo said the release of the K60 million by the State was indicative of “the sleeping giants’ lack of monitoring”.
“The money is now in the teachers’ purse,” he said.
“This money was released after the teacher’s went on strike last year regarding unpaid leave entitlements.”
