Judge threatened

JULIAN Moti’s PNG lawyers Peter Pena & Associates have threatened to take legal action against Justice Gibbs Salika over comments published in this newspaper last Tuesday.
The law firm has demanded the chairman of the Defence Board of Inquiry to retract remarks which suggest that the Vanuatu courts had not acquitted or cleared Moti of the alleged child-sex charges against their client.
A surprised Justice Salika when contacted for his comments asked “which court of law am I in contempt of, PNG court of Vanuatu court?”
The law firm said in a statement the judge had made the comments without bothering to obtain and read copies of publicly-available judiciary decisions of the Vanuatu courts, which clearly and conclusively established that Moti was exonerated on all the charges in Vanuatu.
“His (Justice Salika’s) baseless allegations were also contradicted by official statements issued in October last year by the Vanuatu police commissioner and a former Vanuatu judicial officer.
