Update of voters’ roster ‘tainted’

By ELIJAH FAIPARIK
CORRUPTION is becoming a major problem in the Tari/Pori electorate as the general election looms.
Medical doctor Hamiya Hewali claimed updating of the common roll has been politically influenced.
For over 10 to 15 years, the election process has been manipulated by candidates, he said.
Dr Hewali said it was vital that electoral officers must do the final common roll update in the electorate because there were “ghost names” in it
He claimed a copy of the common roll was sold to supporters of a particular candidate so they will use the ghost names to vote in the general elections.
“SOE officers must intervene if political manipulations would attempt to tamper with the common roll,” Dr Hewali said.
