Law firm to represent PM, Govt at inquiry

THE acting Attorney-General Hitalai Polume last Friday instructed private law firm, Posman Kua Aisi Lawyers, to take carriage of issues related to the Julian Moti saga, on behalf of the Government of Papua New Guinea.
It is understood that the law firm will make representation on behalf of the Government and Sir Michael, as the Prime Minister, before the PNGDF Board of Inquiry this week, when Sir Michael is required to appear before it.
The National understands that this decision was made by the Office of the Attorney-General following reports in the media last week on the issuance of summons by the inquiry calling Sir Michael to appear before it.
The summons has however, not been delivered to Sir Michael, who travelled to Vanimo early last Friday to launch the National Surfing Titles in the Sandaun province. His departure resulted in him not being served the summons.
The military personal who attempted delivering the summons to the Government’s Chief Secretary last Friday were notified that Joshua Kalinoe was also on the same trip as the Prime Minister to the Sepik provinces. However, PM’s chief of staff Leonard Louma said outside the inquiry conference room that Mr Kalinoe was at his Waigani offices last Friday.
Counsel assisting the inquiry John Kawi said yesterday, when anyone, be it the Prime Minister or the Governor-General is served a summons to appear before an inquiry, it must be answered by the person concerned, appearing in person before the inquiry. Failure to do so may mean having a warrant of arrest being issued for a formal arrest.
