New record set in road running

The weather on Saturday continued to be kind to Port Moresby road
runners as they tackled another course dominated by a steep climb.
Upcoming young runner Murphy Eddie, new to road running, made
short work of the 1.5km short course dash setting a new course
record of six minutes and 11 seconds.
The most popular event of the day, for those who decided to avoid
a second climb up Lamana heights, was the 3.3km course.
In this one, Milton Iakosi, for the second consecutive week,
threatened another record, only to miss out by 20 seconds. His
finishing time was still an impressive 11:58, almost a minute
clear of Pi Koyabe and Noko Negosa. Hudson John was first junior
home in 14:34.
Swans Pinampio proved his victory last week was no fluke by
securing his second win in a row in completing the 6.6km event in
28:18, well ahead of Steven Aivenzie.
Pinampio will one of the main contenders chasing Iakosi in the
upcoming Port Moresby Half Marathon in June.
Next Saturday at 5pm, the POMRR head for ěLego Landî, the
Australian High Commission residential compound at Konedobu, where
courses on offer will be 1.6km, 5km, and 8.7km.
