Vanimo ready to host volleyball contest

THE border town of Vanimo has won the bid for the second time to host the Northern Zone Volleyball League (NZVL) championship scheduled for Queen’s Birthday weekend.
NZVL tournament director Steven Kadam has confirmed after his recent visit to Vanimo that the June volleyball tournament will proceed as planned.
Kadam was pleased with the groundwork and co-operation from the Vanimo-based NZVL executives. He praised them for their tireless effort in getting the preparation this far.
He said the affiliation fees for this year will remained the same K200 per association taking part and K100 per team participation.
Kadam has encouraged all teams in the region including Manus to attend, saying that this would be the biggest volleyball festival as four teams from sister city of Jayapura, in Indonesia’s Papua Province, will also be attending.
He said newcomer to Momase volleyball tournament, Wuvulu Island in Manus province, has also confirmed to send four teams.
During the championship, teams can travel across to border to do their shopping. He said a two-day trip has been planned visiting teams which are interested.
Teams confirmed to take part are Lae, Huon Gulf, Mare, Mutzing, Ramu Sugar, Zifazing, Madang Urban, Madang Country, Manus Island, Wewak Urban, Wewak Country, Aitape Urban, Vanimo Urban, Vanimo Country and Telefomin.
