Push for labour market

By ALISON ANIS
THE Ministry for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology has come up with an initiative to set up a national labour market in PNG to promote graduates of higher institutions to the outside world.
Already, the concept of having an internationally marketable education has been referred to as one of the biggest achievement yet in the history of education in PNG, by the higher education ministry.
The plan for a labour market was announced four weeks ago by then minister for higher education Mark Maipakai as one of his achievements during his time as minister.
Mr Maipakai said the ministry was planning to establish a labour market with the aim of exposing skills or qualifications of students from higher education to the workforce and other institutions outside.
The objective of having a labour market is to have an education system that is both marketable and competent at the international level, Mr Maipakai said.
“Is the right of student graduates from universities and other institutions to expand on their knowledge and apply their skills elsewhere.
“We already have some very skilled Papua New Guineans working in other parts of the world and some of them hold key positions.”
