Bismarck victorious
BISMARCK are the undisputed queens of Popondetta women’s softball after defeating Kaiva 19-11 to claim the premiership title last Sunday at the Dorina Park.
It was an unfortunate season for Kaiva who also lost the men’s final to Neighbours.
Bismarck were trailing 9-11 at the bottom of the seventh inning but tireless efforts by Grace Dawadawareta and pitcher Winnie Polume in crossing the home plate at their last turn at the bat forced a 11-all tie after Kaiva failed to register runs in their seventh inning.
Dawadawretta had a field day with the bat.
The eight inning was scoreless for the two sides who displayed tight fielding however, all hell broke loose in the final ninth inning when Bismarck scored five runs thanks to a pep talk by coach Francis Polume and team manager Emaus Tetega that fired up their charges.
Grace Dawadawareta started off with a two-base hit to the outfield and she was followed by another good hit by Winnie Polume and sister Itong Polume who were brought home by Patricia Ivahupa.
Ivahupa’s line drive was complemented with a hit from Helen Embahe who made Kaiva’s pitcher Elvie Arnold’s delivery look ordinary.

Second half comeback

SENTRY Magpies fought off a strong second half comeback by Souths to win 12-11 in a tough game in Buimo off-season rugby league competition played at Buimo Oval last Sunday.
Both sides began using their heavier forward pack to tear up their opponents defence and look for openings to touch down, however tight cover defence from both sides denied each other points on the board.
In other “A” grade games Stones beat Bulls 1-0, Giants beat United 6-4, Landslides defeated Eels 6-4 and Dudus defeated Getson 10-9.
In the “B” grade games United beat Giants 12-4, Landslides beat Landslides 5-4, Magpies forfeit Souths 20-0, Bulls beat Stones 10-4 and Getson drew with Dudus 8-8.
