Soccer League ready to review grey
areas
By HENRY MORABANG
THE National Soccer League (NSL) board will review the grey area
surrounding the technical aspect of the competition.
Chairman John Kapi Natto said this when announcing the expression
of interest by teams wishing to take part in this year’s semi
professional soccer competition.
He said some of the areas that would be revisited included
players’ contract. Basically, NSL wants to come up with a uniform
players’ contract and salary structure so no clubs would pay
different rates when signing players on contract.
Natto said the committee would be headed by PNGFA technical
chairman Joe Turia, and comprise Wesley Raminai (NSL board
member), PNGFA president David Chung and the franchise owners.
He said NSL board was also negotiating with two possible naming
right sponsors for this season. A leading car dealer and a
softdrink company have expressed interest about coming on board as
major sponsors.
NSL Board would be revisiting both companies during a roundtable
conference to put pen on paper once everything was formalised.
Natto also expressed gratitude to Air Niugini for providing
discount airfares for all teams taking part in the competition. He
commended the airline management for promoting soccer.
He said there were ongoing discussions with stakeholders, hotels
and guest houses which were going to provide team accommodation
during the 2007 soccer season.
The amended 2007 NSL prospectus is currently out and any corporate
entities wanting to own a team in the competition should contact
NSL Board to express their interest.
