Stinging and still floating like a Butterfly

By MUSARIKE ANANGAI
The Mabey and Johnson Butterflies may miss the services of the majority of their senior players when the representative season comes around but that will not hinder their performance in the local competition.
Club patron and Sohe MP Peter Oresi predicted this on Sunday by adding that the club faced a similar situation for much of the season last year but still made it to the semi final.
Despite the talent drain, Oresi was proud to have so many of his players playing at a higher level, and believed there was enough depth in the club to remain competitive.
A testimony to Oresi’s belief was seen when a young Butterflies side won the Nines competition earlier this year while their senior players played for the Brian Bell Bulldogs.
Already signs of the talent loss were once again imminent with six Butterflies players involved in the Brian Bell Bulldogs trial match on Sunday.
The six were winger Abraham Yobale, five-eight Jessie Joe, hooker Benjamin John, forwards Aaron Mulunga, Johnson Kuike and Andrew Mckiwa.
A seventh player Emmanuel Palme, last season’s Brian Bell Bulldogs captain did not play due to injury.
Added to that, SP Cup champions the Mabey and Johnson Muruks will once again hire the services of Butterflies stars Charlie Wabo, Joseph Omai and Wesley Benny this season.
The Butterflies have had an outstanding start to the regular season posting 76 points in the first two rounds.
They currently lead competition with three other teams following a 50-12 thrashing of Souths in round one and a hard fought 26-6 win over Tarangau last week.
