Ban nightclubs
Much has been said on the issue of nightclubs after it was
raised by Dr Allan Marat, Attorney General and Minister for Justice and
Attorney-General, with much of the discussion in support of allowing night
clubs.
Some have suggested that nightclubs contribute to the economy, while others
say we live in a 21st century and need to adapt to such changes.
All those opposing the move by the Justice Minister have failed to
understand that the social implications outweigh the economic benefits and
there are other ways to relieve stress.
Nightclubs promote moral decay, immorality and HIV AIDS and that they are
not places for relaxation as many argue.
As a result of nightclubs, there has been a breakdown in marriage and family
values, increases in prostitution and increased borrowing by low-income
workers because money is wasted in night clubs.
What do people, who go to nightclubs, get out of the so-called wet t-shirt
competition or cat walks, etc? It is a mere immoral satisfaction which has
contributed towards rapes, sexual immorality and spread of HIV AIDS.
These are real issues eating away our values like cancer in person’s bone
and we need to speak out for the vulnerable generation of today if PNG is to
survive.
I support the move by Dr Marat and his first Secretary Camilus Vovore to
push for banning nightclubs and closer regulation in the entertainment
industry.
