As a concerned son for Western province, I call upon Governor Dr Bob T Danaya to explain why the 2008 provincial budget was rejected by the Finance Minister under section 141 of the Finance Act.
These raises another key issue. Governor, you need to tell the people of Western province who has been appointed the acting provincial administrator since Nelson Hungrabo’s term of office expired last November. Who will lead the provincial administration in producing the 2008 revised budget?
I also understand that the dividend from the 12.5% equity in OK Tedi mine has not been reflected in the annual budget for the last five years (2003-2007).
Where did the money end up? Please provide details in the news media for the benefit of the people of Western province.
I urge the Minister for Finance and Treasury to commence investigation into possible abuse of power and authority by those in power in Western province.
