Lae inter-company sports taking shape

PRIVATE sector employees in Lae are being urged to take part in inter-company sports.
The PNG Sports Foundation is again spearheading the games that are expected to begin on March 24.
PNGSF’s development officer Philip Lavatu said yesterday that the company sports was organised mainly for company’s employees from both private and corporate sectors in Lae.
“The aim is to promote healthy life style and fitness, HIV/AIDS awareness, socialise and promote linkage between companies in Lae,” Lavatu said.
“We will have two rounds as scheduled in the programme structure that was sent out to various companies. The games in round one will be mixed volleyball on Tuesday, 7-a-side soccer on Thursday and netball on Saturdays,” he said.
“Mixed volleyball and basketball will be played from 5pm to 7pm on weekdays while ladies netball will be played from 1pm to 5pm during weekends.”
Lavatu urged all companies in Lae to register their ladies teams to take part.
The round one of the sports program will run for 12 weeks starting from March 24-June 20 and round two will start on July 21-October 10.
The registration of teams will open on Feb 29 and close on March 14 in round one and round two registration of teams will open on July 7 and close on July 18.
The presentation and dinner/dance and will be held on June 28 for round one and Oct 25 for round two at Club 69.
