ANOTHER great weekend lurks around the corner and many readers will be dreaming of those fish sunning themselves invitingly near the surface; those cricket balls begging to be caught and those tempting unspoiled mountain treks. Whichever leisure temptation you succumb to - take care and enjoy yourselves.

FORMER freedom fighter Robert Mugabe continues to maintain a dying claw-hold on the African nation of Zimbabwe. The 84-year-old today presides over the ruins of what was one of Africa's most prosperous economies. Last week, he went on Zimbabwean television and radio and thundered that he would continue to rule the country - there was "no vacancy".
***
THEY never accept the inevitable, do they? They can't see that their race is run, and their people are inpatient for new faces and new blood to run the country. When Mr Mugabe finally retires or dies, the memory of his original outstanding legacy to his people will have vanished and his reputation with it - a sad and diminished ending to a lifetime in national affairs.

YESTERDAY, we were asked to weep tears of anguish for Mt Hagen market sellers who have to pay fees ranging from K2 in order to sell their goods at the glamorous new city market venue.
***
WELL - here's a little challenge; someone in our third city might like to find out how much the average seller makes each day. We'll bet London to a brick that there's a great deal left over after the mothers' market fee has been paid. Sellers need to recognise that maintaining clean toilets and other facilities cost money, and it's their responsibility to pay those fees.

REGARDLESS of who is involved - it seems at best, unfortunate that prosecution against Members of the House seem to fall thicker than autumn leaves just before election. The suspicion that the two occurrences may not be unrelated is hard to dismiss, as one well-known parliamentarian after another joins the list to face charges.

QUIZZERS! The current Quiz ends at 5pm on Sunday. Can you name three PNG women who have represented our country overseas as ambassadors or high commissioners? Respond to DeeNesenolis@hotmail.com with your answer.
