Tax Talk column hits the right note

THANKS for the Tax Talk column in The National yesterday.
As a songwriter and pro-copyright advocate, I support such efforts to educate like-minded owners and users of copyright.
I wonder if the rest of the article will comment on the question of royalties and withholding tax and the specific types and amounts of income tax payable, and what is the schedule of activities that owners can undertake to reduce their tax liability?
May I also contend that without copyright regulation on Collective Management Organisations, the Internal Revenue Commission cannot tax royalty income?
I understand that the IPOPNG is working on a draft and will present it to cabinet in time for a decision.
Through the Port Moresby Copyright Owners’ Lobby (POMCOL), I am calling on songwriters to send me email at oalasongs@hotmail.com and provide their contact details.
POMCOL will then call a meeting to gauge opinions as to whether it is feasible to incorporate as a Collective Management Organisation under the Associations Incorporation Act in readiness for the regulation.
Thanks Mark Opur and The National for the column.
