NBC’s eye on transmission assets by JICA

THE National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) will continue to claim ownership of assets and technical equipment that was donated to Radio East New Britain by the Japanese government through JICA.
These includes the new studio complex at Ralum and the transmitter tower at Kenabot.
NBC board chairman Loani Henao said this on Monday in Kokopo where he accompanied NBC Managing Director Joseph Ealedona for a meeting with senior officials of the provincial government and administration at Vunadidir.
The purpose of the meeting was to iron out differences over the ownership of the radio equipment facilities and assets used by RENB and to promote better working relationship between the two parties.
He said the studio complex and technical equipment as well as the transmitter tower belonged to the people of ENB and NBC would continue to look after them on behalf of the people and the provincial government.
Mr Henao explained that revenue from the hire of the tower by private companies would be shared between RENB and NBC on a 50-50 basis.
He said NBC’s news and programmes should always be impartial, fair and balanced without bias.
He said the board had successfully negotiated with the National Government for the release of K21 million to be used for upgrading of radio equipment in the provinces, and this was a big step the new management under Mr Ealedona’s leadership has taken up this year.
