Founding chairman of NBC dies at 66

FOUNDING chairman of the National Broadcasting Commission during the post-self government period after 1973 and a pioneer in the media industry died after a long illness.
Sam Piniau from Rakatop village in the Reimber local level government area in East New Britain died on Tuesday, aged 66.
Mr Piniau was a pioneer in the media industry since the days of the Department of Information and Extension Services.
A strong advocate of media freedom and impartiality, especially in the development of broadcasting to which he believed is still the most effective medium of development, education and entertainment in the country today.
His retiring days saw his commitment towards the improvement and development of the United church serving good number of terms also as secretary to the regions office in Rabaul.
Funeral arrangements are still being made. He is survived by his wife Dulcie and six children.
