Team set to carry out plan

By ELIZABETH VUVU
FUNDS recently made available to the East New Britain response team for the Newcastle disease will enable them to immediately eradicate sick poultry in affected areas beginning next week.
Chairman, Tom Peni said yesterday the team recently received K50,000 each from the National Agriculture Quarantine Inspection Authority and the ENB provincial government to start the exercise which would be referred to as the “Stamping out Phase”. They are still awaiting response from the National Executive Council. He said this exercise would specifically cover Malaguna No. 1, 2 and 3 and the whole of Matupit Island, where many sick birds had been identified.
He said the phase would involve officers moving into the hotspots to destroy sick birds and to wash down and disinfect any village chicken sheds if any, would be burned down.
