Students stranded

MANY students attending the Saint Michaels High School at Brahman in Madang province were stranded last Saturday when part of the road to the school was washed away by flood waters.
Parents were disappointed, as many of them had travelled a long way to bring their children to school.
A mother, Serah Naemon, who was bringing her son to school, said it was sad to see parents looking for ways to get their children to school.
People living along the flooded area built a small bridge for students and parents to walk across after paying a fee of 50 toea to K1.
Headmaster Simon Pais waited for students on the other side of the road and brought them to school in the school truck.
Mr Pais said the road was causing a lot of inconvenience to road users.
He said the school’s food supply was running low and if the road problem continued, then the school would have to look at other alternatives to make sure the academic year continued.
Classes began last Wednesday, with only a third of the students enrolling.
Many are yet to arrive .
