A show of success
Ruby League revival in schools

By SAMPSON BONAI
THE PNG Milo schoolboy rugby league registration roadshow ended in Lae yesterday and more than more than 3,000 schoolboys in four rugby league-playing centres registered.
Young players from Goroka, Kokopo, Port Moresby and Lae schools registered their interest to play and promote the game through the roadshow which was promoted with the help of Kumul coach Adrian Lam.
PNG schoolboy rugby league chairman Ifisoe Segeyaro said yesterday that he was pleased with the support received from all the schools visited in the past week.
“I want to thank Nestle under the Milo brand for sponsoring the PNG schoolboy rugby league competition. Believe me, in 10 years time we will produce some of the best rugby league players that can beat any team in the world,” Segeyaro said.
“I’m planning another corporate roadshow later this year to seek more financial support from the corporate sector as this is the only way to move the game of rugby league forward”.
Kumul coach Adrian Lam said that more than 3,000 schoolboys registered during the roadshow tour which started in Port Moresby last Saturday.
“We had huge turnout in Port Moresby and Kokopo. It was a bumper crowd in Goroka with over 1, 000 schoolboys signing up to play in their local schoolboys rugby league competition,” Lam said.
Lae Schoolboys League president Dennis Miall was impressed with the huge turnout in Lae yesterday. “Schoolboy competition will grow with more schools taking part in the competition this year,” he said.
