Dobo Warriors on the warpath in POM league

By MUSARIKE ANANGAI
Frontrunners Dobo Warriors will be aiming to maintain their unbeaten record when they take on Royals in the main game of the Port Moresby rugby league on Sunday at Lloyd Robson Oval.
Dobo shares the competition lead with Butterflies, Kone Tigers and Hawks after defeating Magani 22-16 and Brothers 14-8 in the first two rounds.
Besides that, they have an added incentive to win as they were presented with new sets of uniforms yesterday from the Koiari Special Purpose Authority. The uniforms and accessories were worth about K5,000.
Coach Paul Noe said the club had recruited well in the off-season and was well balanced both in the backs and forwards to give the title a real shake this season.
Notable young recruits included PNG Kundus utility Sylvestor Nuambo from Wests and a promising young player from Kundiawa Aure Wemin.
Noe is expecting a big game this Sunday from his two representative players (Brian Bell Bulldogs) captain Thomas Ninkama and centre Lazen Marabe, plus halfback Andy Andrew and lock Sine Kuman.
In the opposition camp, while Royals playmaker Bafinu Ilau has yet to return from overseas, forward Kawage Gagma is back in the side after missing last weekendís 22-14 win over Defence due to the Bulldogs trial match.
Coach Paul Komboi wants Gagma and young five-eighth Peter Paulus to lead from the front, but he added that a collective team effort would be required if they are to win.
Komboi said his side had been guilty of repeating mistakes during the opening rounds and wants them to go back to basics. “I’ve instructed my boys to keep up with the speed of the game and to get quick play the balls away,” he said.
In the other matches, Butterflies go into tomorrow’s match against Puma in search of a third consecutive victory. Kone Tigers will be aiming to do the same against Magani while Tarangau will be looking to bounce back from last week’s loss when they play Hawks.
On Sunday both Paga and Waliya will be out to register a second victory, Brothers will take on Wests while Defence and Souths will be looking for their first victories.
