Blues are favourite in Madang men’s softball

By WENDY KATUSELE
AGMARK Blues will start as favourites against a youthful Kalibobo side in Madang men’s softball minor semi-final tomorrow at the Yabong Park.
The do-or-die match will see the winner advance into the preliminary finals against defending champions 09ers the next day while the loser hang up their gloves for the season.
09ers lost to Kabiu in the major semi-final played last weekend.
The do-or-die clash was cancelled due the death of long time administrator and former player the late Silas Zale last Sunday.
Blues will be banking on pitcher Rolland “lightning” Kakat and catcher Ilau Paranis to allow them smooth sailing, especially against a unpredictable Kalibobo.
Kalibobo however, has a bunch of young players who have shown enthusiasm to match their much older and experienced opponents and are bound to create havoc for Blues.
Pitcher Joe Black knows how to tame his much experienced batters and should need the services of catcher Mathew Pokanau to guide him.
Blues batting strength lies in the hands of Eremas Leslie, player/coach Warren Kakat and Joel Petau who should take charge testing Kalibobo’s fielding strategy.
Kalibobo coach Henry Takaili will bank on son David, Cedric Diou, Raymond Diou and Gerol Pokanau to stand up to the test.
In the women’s Yamilon led by Tracey Kig, Paulanne Kig and Agnes Diou will be up against 09ers in the minor semi finals.
The winner will take on Kalibobo in the preliminary finals on Sunday.
Kalibobo lost to Paragon Bees in major semi-final last Saturday with Bees booking their first ever grand final appearance.
