PNG boxing squad named

PAPUA New Guinea Amateur Boxing Union today announced its training squad for three major regional events this year.
The squad was selected after the recent National Boxing Trials held at Sir John Guise Indoor Complex in Port Moresby.
Long time boxing administrator and chairman of Selectors Dick Larry said the squad is for the three international meets which include Oceania Boxing Championship in April, Arafura Games in May and the Pacific Games in Aug/Sept.
The squad members are as follows Lui Magaiva (Bereina), Jack Willie (POM), Francis Oaeke (Bereina), Anton Koazu (Bereina), John Donkong (Bougainville), Eugene Keto (NCD), Andrew Opungu (Bereina), Jeffrey Koredong (Bougainville), Rudolf Neru (Bougainville), Chavis Kora (NCD), Toksy Seteme (Goroka), John Korake (NCD), Vincent Kora (NCD)
Larry also announced the first ever women’s squad to travel overseas for the Oceania Games. The female team was also selected after the trials in Port Moresby last weekend. The team is Mary Pascal (Bereina), Naomi Arua (NCD), Mary Greg (Bereina), Georgina Ketonie (Bougainville), Chezz Nahi (Bougainville), Cecilia Ofoi (Berina) and Silvia Kengema (NCD).
He said with tight budget, PNGABU is likely to name three female boxers for the Oceania Games in Samoa next month.
However, he said, those female boxers who are in the training squad should continue training as they might be called as replacement.
