Draw for PNG boxer
PNG Bomber “Rickson Yamo” drew his first
international professional boxing debut against an experienced John Akaoula
on Friday night at Wyong Leagues Club on the NSW central coast. It was a
fight which Rickson dominated but had to submit to judge’s decision, which
did not go down well with most fight fans and his management. The three
judges had the fight 39-38, 40-40, 39-37 declaring the draw. To his credit
an experience Akauola held on desperately to force a draw escaping knockout
from PNG Bomber on various occasions. Yamo missed Akaoula with very powerful
right crosses and hooks but did not connect to end the fight.
Rain or no rain ...
PORT Moresby Road Runners gathered behind the Holiday Inn, Hohola for
three events. Faustina Mark scored her first victory in the 1.5km dash
leading the youngsters home in a close race in a winning time of 7mins
20secs. Heavy rain cooled the one and two lap contestants midway during the
events. Unfortunately, the slippery conditions underfoot caused one runner
to turn his ankle. In the cooling conditions Kesa Nathan chalked up an
exciting victory to narrowly win the 3.3km race in fast time of 13mins
2secs. Noko Negosa and Akis Ivia were only a couple of seconds behind.
Richard Johns ran an improved race coming in seventh place and Cassandra
Lees was next and first female past the finishing line. James Gurumi held
out Swans Pinampio by the narrowest of margins in taking victory in the
6.6km event in another fast time of 27mins 29secs. Scott Bishop finished in
third place almost three minutes in arrears. Stephanie Karipa was the only
junior to complete the full distance in a time of 38mins 30secs.
