Incest unbecoming
I refer to the story “Man pleads guilty to incest”
(The National, Feb 18), which says that the accused, who is from Abau in
Central province, has four wives and is a member of the Seventh-Day
Adventist (SDA) church. Please allow me as a member of the SDA church to
clarify qualifications of the church membership, especially in regard to the
mentioned offence. The Holy scriptures and therefore the SDA church policies
are very clear. No one who practices polygamy, adultery, incest,
homosexuality or any other form of indecent sexual behaviour can claim to be
a SDA church member or a Christian. The church expels those who involved in
these practices after having made their baptismal vows. Those who are not
baptised into the SDA church are regarded as ‘new interests’ and not counted
as church members. So from your story I conclude that Mr Pene could be a
‘new interest’ or a ‘former member’ but not an active member of SDA church
or claim to be a Christian. – Titus, Tabubil
Probe illegal buildings
I am appealing to the Governor of National Capital District Powes Parkop,
the Building Board of the National Capital District and PNG Power Limited to
visit Hohola No.3, particularly Hekakore and Gordonia Streets, to
investigate new buildings rising up in the suburb. I believe the
entrepreneur behind these buildings has breached building board laws because
these two-storey buildings are almost reaching the main power lines and even
the buildings’ stonewalls are extended to the roads. Please do something. –
