Seven NACS officers get their jobs back

The seven senior officers in the National Aids Council Secretariat (NACS) who were suspended last month, were reinstated into office last Monday, following a court order.
Acting director, Romanus Pakure said the manner in which they were suspended was not in accordance with normal procedures.
“In any Government body that has a board, the minister cannot individually carry out suspensions of senior ranking officers,” he said.
Mr Pakure and his deputy said the NACS welcomed investigations into the nine allegations against them but they are stressing that correct procedures must be followed.
“We were not given notices and were not even aware that we would be suspended until we saw media reports on our suspensions.
“We were then advised to report to the Health Department and given our letters of suspension and banned from entering the NACS office all on the same day,” Mr. Gonapa, deputy director for NACS said.
He said the NACS director can only be suspended by the National Executive Council (NEC) and no other authority and the NACS is a statutory body and had a disciplinary committee that looks into such matters and deal with them accordingly.
“We have been reinstated by the Rule of Law into office because improper procedures were used to suspend us,” he said.
Mr Gonapa said that now that they are back in office, they are assuring their donor partners and stakeholders that they will give the best they have this year.
