Parents concerned about Unitech turmoil

PARENTS of students attending the University of Technology have vowed to hold the administration and its National Academic Staff Association (NASA) accountable for their children’s lack of education.
Concerned parents told The National that they were not happy with the “infighting’ between NASA and the Unitech administration.
One parent said with the full support of several others, that he would hold both parties responsible if their children failed their courses or missed out on job opportunities after graduation.
Simon Maip, a parent from Lae, said the future of their sons and daughters studying at the university appeared bleak.
“We are really worried because this has been an ongoing problem. Our children’s wellbeing is being compromised here,” Mr Maip said.
He said if NASA and the administration had problems they should find better solutions by having round table discussions rather then going to the media.
Another parent from Mt Hagen in the Western High province, Philip Goro also said the infighting between the two parties was psychologically demoralising the students in their studies.
Other callers from Port Moresby, Goroka, Madang and Tabubil in the Western Province also shared the same sentiments.
They said the academic year had started (on Monday) and the two parties should now leave their problems with the proper authorities and attend to their foremost responsibility, that of teaching.
