Don’t buy Indian anti-venom
I am a medical specialist and have treated many patients following snake bite, having worked at the Port Moresby General Hospital in the past. I would like to take issue with comments attributed to Manesh Patel, who claims that the Indian anti-venom is an alternative to the Australian anti-venom and is effective against “a couple of snakes found in Sandaun and plenty found in West Papua”. This is false. While the price of the Australian anti-venom is a significant issue for PNG, the Indian anti-venom was developed specifically for snakes found in India and does not have any activity against any snakes found in PNG. I am concerned that such false information may encourage people to buy this inappropriate anti-venom and this may harm patients bitten by snakes in PNG. – Dr Allen Cheng, MBBS, FRACP, Ph.D

It’s Okuk not Highlands H’way
I refer to the article on the front page (The National, Feb 21) titled “Highlands Highway Robbery” by James Apa Gumuno. I am not happy with the name Highlands Highway on the front page since it should be correctly called “Okuk Highway” as it was named after late Iambakey Okuk. He was a great leader and we still remember him and treasure the development he brought into our country. The road linking the highlands and the coast is one of them. – RKombukon, Genai Nem

What’s going on at Unitech?
Please can the Government, Unitech Council and vice-chancellor or whoever is concerned please come out and inform us of all that is happening at the Unitech campus? We the students and the stakeholders are in total darkness and confusion over the termination of the council and the general operations of the school. Every time we have to turn to the media to find out that something is always happening at Unitech, so please can we have the situation clarified? – Surupo, Unitech

Nightclubs are a time bomb
The few people opposing Dr Marat’s stand to ban nightclubs are arguing that there are better ways to root out social disorder, but I wonder at the cause of family breakdown, rape, murder, HIV/AIDS and other problems.Even if it is against human rights, we should ban nightclubs once and for all, for the sake our young generation. If we don’t act now this is a time bomb for our society. – F.P.Lapu, Ipa Kakua

Fix Lae city roads
Can the Somare Government and the Morobe provincial government fix the deteriorating roads around Lae city, please? It is very annoying and hopeless for human beings here. Enough is enough. Bloody fix our roads, will you? – Henry Kari Siwi, Lae
