Improve services at registry
I LODGED an application for a birth
certificate last year and even today the data entered is flawed.
I am assuming this is another lazy Government department because
all they have to do is process the date correctly.
The sad thing is they are working under a minister who has public
respect.
Can the departmental head check out what is happening.
If they are not performing, replace them with competent people.

Devious activities in NCD electorate
I WISH to make known some devious
activities I have witnessed that have been going on in the
last two weeks, particularly for intending candidates and the two
sitting MPs for the Moresby North East and Moresby South
electorates.
I am a resident in one of the East Boroko communities and have
been living there for the last 25 years.
The people I live with have enrolled on the common roll and have
been voting there since Independence.
Lately, a candidate’s official, who we know, has been seen
transporting people from our area to enrol at the Electoral
Commission office Downtown.
Why would people enrol as Moresby North East or Moresby South
residents, when they won’t be voting in that particular
electorate?
Are they being coaxed and bribed to enrol and vote in the wrong
electorate?
Can the Electoral Commission clarify whether people who live
elsewhere, for example in Moresby North East, could enrol
elsewhere, such as in Moresby South?
We have to avoid the danger of having a lot of ghost names on the
common roll again.
It seems that any Tom, Dick and Harry can go Downtown and enrol in
any electorate. Please clarify this situation. -Concerned

Philemon’s actions are not comparable
THE recent suggestion by Utula Samana
that Lae MP Bart Philemon has done little for Lae city and Morobe
province cannot go unchallenged.
Every thinking Papua New Guinean knows that Philemon almost
single-handedly turned this economy around in a space of three
years.
What did Samana achieve in the 15 or so years he was the premier
of Morobe, ambassador to the United States and more recently,
as secretary for Agriculure and Livestock?
Philemon’s actions and achievements are not comparable to that of
Samana’s, and I believe Philemon has more to offer not just to
Morobe but to the whole of PNG.
As Member for Lae, he may have had his share of problems leading
to non-delivery of services but he can only get wiser.
Any good thinking Morobeen will not challenge Philemon in the
coming election as he definitely is the only real prime
ministerial candidate right now.
While respecting their democratic rights and choices, I therefore
call on Samana and Benson Nablu to stop being used by outside
interests to challenge Philemon.
Remember, Morobe may never have this chance again. -Robin
