WHP primary school head uses bedroom as office

THE head of a primary school in the Western Highlands province is using her bedroom as her office as she seeks funds to help build the school’s administration building that was burnt down early this year.
The Minj Primary School in the Western Highlands province has launched a public appeal for funds to build a new administration block.
Headmistress Judith Opo and the school board of governors are appealing for financial donations to rebuild the building that was burnt down by arsonists on Jan 20.
Mrs Opo estimated that it would cost K250,000 to build a new administration block.
“The funds raised from this appeal would meet the cost of replacing the old building with a new main administration unit, school files and records, library books, office equipment and other school materials,” she said, adding that about K28,000 worth of school properties were destroyed in the fire.
She said in spite of the situation, the school started its normal classes last month.
The school has 19 teachers and 550 students.
Mrs Opo said because of lack of office space, she was using her bedroom in her house as a temporary office.
She said anyone wishing to assist the school could make deposits into the school account number-10000 14862 at Bank South Pacific’s Mt Hagen branch.
She said the school would be staging a school fete in July with the assistance of the community and parents to raise funds for the building.
