By ELIJAH FAIPARIK
A PNG Defence Force officer left for Australia to participate in a year-long training course on national security issues.
Lt Col Gilbert Toropo left for Australia on Feb 19 to attend the Australian Defence Force’s Centre for Defence and Strategic Studies at Weston Creek in Canberra.
Lt Col Toropo’s participation on the course is being funded under the Defence Cooperation Programme between Australia and PNG.
The course provides ADF officers, Australian public service personnel and overseas participants with the knowledge and skills required by senior figures operating in the national security environment.
During the course he will be exposed to a wide range of geo-strategic topics that focus on the Asia-Pacific region.
The course contains six thematic core curriculum blocks.
These are entitled: Development of Strategic Thought; Command, Strategic Leadership and Management; The Contemporary Strategic Setting; Future Strategic Settings; Australian Strategic policy – Past, Present and Future, and Higher Command and Staff Studies.
