Pruaitch dismisses claims

FOREST Minister Patrick Pruiatch has described allegations of a Malaysian logging company offering to sell its timber permit for K29 million as untrue.
Mr Pruaitch was responding to the Member for Kandrian-Gloucestor David Sui during Question Time yesterday that Chakara Alam was going around offering to sell its timber permit for K29 million.
Mr Pruiatch said the allegations were not true.
He said according to a recent briefing with the company involved, the Asengseng project will commence some time this year after its wharf and log pond are completed.
Mr Sui said he was concerned that since two of the logging project agreements in his electorate, Asengseng and Rottock Bay Consolidated were signed in 2005 and permits issued, no logs has been shipped.
Mr Pruaitch, however, said the Rottock Bay Consolidated logging project in West New Britain had commenced with its third shipment of logs this week. He said he signed the third export license last Monday.
He further said that the logging permits of the two companies could not be revoked because work had already commenced on the project.
