One dead, several injured in PMV accident

A CHILD died while several people were admitted at the Port Moresby General Hospital on Tuesday night when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned at the sight of a road block by criminals along the Hiritano Highway.
The three-year-old was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Central provincial police commander Chief Insp Peter Taiang confirmed yesterday that the accident was fatal but could not provide any more details as he was still waiting for his traffic officers to brief him.
According to reports obtained by The National, the incident happened at about 9.30pm at a sharp turn several kilometres from the Laloki Psychiatric Centre, just outside NCD.
It was reported that the public motor vehicle (PMV) skidded off the road and rolled two times.
The PMV was travelling to Port Moresby from the Gulf province.
It was raining heavily when the accident occurred.
Because a section of the road was blocked off by rascals the driver swerved to the side to avoid the blockade but ended skidding off the road.
Passengers and the vehicle’s crew members were assaulted by the rascals after the vehicle came to a stop.
It was reported that a passenger was slashed on his arm while the PMV’s driver and crewmembers received multiple head and arm injuries.
