MRO alleged robbers in court

FOUR people have appeared before the Waigani Committal Court in relation to the theft of K1 million and 15 gold bars at the Metals Refining Operations (Limited) office, last month.
The first of the suspects, in his 20s, was apprehended by police at Boroko on Feb 17.
At that time, police also confiscated some camouflaged police uniforms, reportedly similar to those used by the robbers and about K1,700 in cash.
The three other suspects were apprehended last weekend at different times and locations in NCD.
During the arrest police confiscated more than K3,000 in cash.
The four men were charged and made their mention appearances at the court early this week.
Police are still investigating the theft as there are more people to be questioned.
Meanwhile, police have apprehended three men in relation to the pack rape of two Central province sisters, the theft of K1,300 in cash and a mobile telephone belonging to their male companions, who were assaulted and chased off before the sisters were attacked.
Metropolitan Supt Mark Kanawi said police had in their custody three suspects, who were identified by the sisters as some of the men who had raped them on the night of Feb 20 near Dogura Beach, along the Magi Highway.
He said the men were rounded up by police while on patrol along the highway.
One of the two sisters is a Grade 11 student at a Central province secondary school.
