Nandex eyes three more bouts
By WENDY KATUSELE
CHAMPION kick boxer Stanley Nandex
has three fights up his sleeve before he officially retires at the
end of the year.
First Nandex will have to lead Team PNG take on an Australian team
this month in the Kickboxing’s (KB1) second promotional showdown
featuring the Kokoda Track Cup.
The event was initiated last year and has the backing of
kickboxing organisers witrh discussions for it to be an annual
challenge.
The fight is scheduled for March 17 and will be staged at the
Tribal Den Hotel in Port Moresby.
The one day challenge is significant in the kickboxing circle as
PNG sees it first ever female international fight.
With an attractive prizemoney package of K10,000, the main bout
will feature Nandex against Australia’s champion Michael Orec in
the super middleweight division.
Both fighters have laid off for some time and their return to the
ring should be a real punch up.
Nandex has not been to the ring since November 2005 battling a
prolonged knee injury and his return has been welcomed by the
World Kickboxing Body adding this fight will be a lead up to the
world titles in Turkey in May.
Nandex final fight will be the PNG vs the rest of the world to be
staged in the country on December 1 when the kickboxing fraternity
accepts Nandex retirement.
“I am medically and physically fit but right now 99 per cent and I
should be 100 per cent in the next two weeks and I am looking
forward to getting on the ring for the last time,” Nandex said.
Five fighters will also be featured in the main events which
includes a female bout with PNG’s Markret Peter to take on
Australian champion Kelly Ridge in the middleweight division.
PNG’s Andy Sam fights it out with Francis MacDonald in 65kg, Bonny
Loius takes on John Higginson in the 78kg, Gabby Yura clash with
Dan Schmidt and Charlie Baital battle with Shannon Forrestor in
the 72kg division.
Other promising fighters will be given the opportunity in the
under cards John Kwiwa vs Uzine Mosina, Mathew Witu against
Patrick Kepa, Sine Olto vs Gris Nathan, Andy Linstan vs Mark Sai,
Rodney Warea up against Andy Aina and Mark Sondo takes on Willie
