Gazelle ready to bite the Bullet on
Sunday
By EKONIA PENI
BULLETS who scared top team Brown Eagles last weekend are planning
a similar fate for fourth-placed Gazelle in the main men’s
softball encounter in Port Moresby on Sunday.
The clash will also mark the home and away matches for round two.
However, the final series will be delayed by one week due to
washed out matches that will need to be played out.
Pitcher Bobby Benson and catcher Daniel Evald who have established
a good combination this season will again be counted on to lead
Bullets with their combination for a possible upset.
A positive result is likely as long as skipper Stanis Ponda,
Daniel Move, William Maniot, Eddie Renson, Barney Bafmatuk and
Oscar Kari can provide solid back up batting.
However Gazelle appear to have turned the corner with good batting
display in the last two outings and have to maintain that form to
record a big result.
Pitchers Patrick Pilak and Nelson Kiap, whoever Gazelle choose to
start off the match will no doubt pitch well to restrict Bullets
from scoring easy points.
Consistent batters Gabriel Pamel, Colin Mangot, Peter Kaminel and
David Mickey will need to bat well.
With the final series to start in a fortnight, Gazelle must use
the chance to improve their batting and general play as part of
over all preparations for the finals.
Gazelle and Bears will also be playing the washed out match
tomorrow before they back up for their respective matches on
Sunday.
In the other matches on Sunday, SPIA Manolos should not treat
Dolphins lightly in the 1pm match as Dolphins are capable of
causing an upset as they did last weekend against Airways Bears.
While Elcom should be comfortable over Kopex at 2.30pm, the
premiers- Bears, could find the going tough against Samurai if
they do not warm up well for the contest in the first match at
10am.
A close tussle is expected between Brown Eagles and Malangan in
the 11.30am clash.
Brown Eagles lead the competition on 28 points, followed by
Manolos 24, Elcom 23, Gazelle 19, Bears 16, Malangan 16, Dolphins
11, Bullets 10, Samurai six and Kopex three points.
