Another tough encounter in store for
Airways Bears
By WENDY KATUSELE
DEFENDING champions Airways Bears face yet another tough
assignment when they take on an unpredictable Admiralty in Port
Moresby women’s softball competition tomorrow.
Games were cancelled last weekend due to heavy down pour of rain
experienced in the city but if the sky clears on the day the
Bisini diamonds is expected to witness yet feast of top softball.
In another interesting match see Dolphins out to tame inform
Gazelle while Budget Real Estate Wantoks take on Malangan.
After two consecutive loss, Bears must avenge their loss with a
win to continue to maintain their top spot in the competition.
Against an impulsive Admiralty outfit, Bears will have to contain
the Manusians hunger to also make the final top four standings.
Admiralty have been one of the formidable side this season under
the guidance of coach Douglas Paak who has moulded the team to be
a force to be reckoned this season.
After a narrow loss to the champions in the first round, Admiralty
will again be banking on slow and medium pitcher Janet Peter who
has been catching seasoned batters off guard.
She will have the assistance of catcher Gloria Unavi, first base
custodian Ericka Bob, Jenny Paak on second, Darusilla William on
third, Ruth Ngahan at shortstop while the outfield department will
manned by Sophie Malaibe, Winnie Aihi and Debbie Maira.
It is up to Bears batting strength of Margaret Josephs, Helen Tata,
Antonia Tatai, Janice Soweni, Monica Diapong, Terry Akorare,
Cystal Diou and Wendy Sogai to instill discipline in that
department should they want to return to the winners circle.
Bears have bitter memories of two consecutive losses at the hands
of Gazelle and Stingerz respectively and are sure to come back
strong.
Meanwhile, it should be another interesting match as Gazelle who
lost to Wantoks last fortnight also want to return to the winning
arena but have to overcome a fired up Dolphins side.
