Zibe seeks top-level changes in his dept

MINISTER for Health Sasa Zibe wants to see changes in the top levels of his department.

Mr Zibe said new appointments should be made in key positions to make the health delivery system work more effectively and geared more towards serving the majority of the people who depend heavily on the public health system.
He said in a statement that the general public, patients, health sector unions and staff have been so critical of the appalling performance of certain headquarter personnel.
Mr Zibe added that the lack of action to deal with these concerns have led to serious consequences on the performance of the department.
Mr Zibe said an example would be the staff welfare matters and union issues that caused public hospitals to go on strike while sick patients suffered.
“It is a good thing for the Department of Personnel Management to approve the top level restructure of the health department. I prefer to see fresh blood in some of the key management positions,” he said.
Mr Zibe said appointments would be on a proven track record of good performance, qualification and appropriate management experience instead of longevity in the department.
He said if there were no suitable candidates within the department, he would recruit the best candidates from outside.
