Ex-cop charged over rape of woman in car

By NIDRA KEWERE
A FORMER policeman accused of abducting and raping a woman appeared before the Waigani Commital Court last Friday.

The accused is from the Simbu province and married with two children.
It was alleged that the victim was walking home from her workplace at the Sports Inn last October when the accused pulled up in a white car from the Gordons Police Barracks just as she came out.
The accused, who happened to be her brother- in- law, got down from the vehicle with a bush knife, slapped her and ordered her into the car.
There were two other men in the vehicle with the accused.
They drove off and he asked her where his wife and children were. The woman told him where they were and asked to drop her off, but instead they kept driving around.
The accused continued to ask the victim about his family and received the same answer.
Then he stopped the car at the Waigani Government office centre and ordered the other two men out of the car.
It was alleged that he forcefully removed her clothes and raped her in the car, which the accused has denied and his lawyer did not file a submission.
